Founder’s Message

Welcome to Diplostyle.

One of my earliest memories is of a time when I began to understand that peace cannot be taken for granted.

During Kenya’s 2007/08 post-election violence, I was still a child and did not fully understand the politics behind what was happening. But I remember the uncertainty and fear that surrounded that period. I remember my family having to relocate from where we were living and seeing, along the way, the impact that conflict had left behind — damaged buildings, affected communities, and the disruption of ordinary lives.

At that age, I did not understand the complexity of conflict or the forces that create it. But I understood its impact. I understood that conflict does not only affect governments or political leaders; it affects families, communities, and everyday people.

As I grew older, that experience became a source of curiosity. It led me to ask deeper questions.

Why do societies experience conflict? Why are some communities able to rebuild while others remain divided? What role do leadership, governance, and institutions play in creating peaceful and resilient societies?

Those questions eventually led me to study International Relations.

Studying International Relations did not give me all the answers. Instead, it gave me better questions. It helped me understand that the challenges societies face are complex and that lasting solutions require dialogue, responsible leadership, strong institutions, and people who are willing to work together.

I began to see that creating a better future is not only the responsibility of governments or institutions. It requires people who are willing to ask difficult questions, listen to different perspectives, engage constructively, and take responsibility for the communities they are part of.

That realisation became Diplostyle.

I founded Diplostyle because I believe young people have the ability to shape the future when they are given the right opportunities, spaces, and support to learn and lead.

My hope is that Diplostyle becomes a space where young people can ask important questions, have meaningful conversations, develop as leaders, and turn ideas into action.

I did not create Diplostyle because I have all the answers. I created it because I believe the right questions, combined with dialogue, collaboration, and a commitment to finding solutions, can help us build a better future together.

I believe the future we hope for will not be built by one person or one institution. It will be built by people who are willing to listen, learn, collaborate, and choose solutions even when challenges are difficult.
